You will know by now that the Government laid the Airports National Policy Statement (Airports NPS) before Parliament yesterday. All the information on the announcement can be found here:
The Airports NPS can be found here: ttps://www.gov.uk/government/publications/airports-national-policy-statement
A vote must take place by 10 July 2018. However, it is expected to take place before them. The position is expected to become clearer following the Brexit votes in the House of Commons on 12/13 June 2018.
A useful guide to the issues facing the adoption of the NPS and Heathrow expansion via the Northwest Runway can be found in the DfT's response to the report of the House of Commons Transport Committee. As you will see the DfT say that they welcome and have acted upon 24 of the 25 recommendations put forward by the Transport Committee.
There is a Westminster Hall debate on the Transport Committee's report tomorrow at 1.30pm. https://calendar.parliament.uk/calendar/Commons/All/2018/6/7/Daily
It should be an interesting forerunner to the debate in the House of Commons on the Airports NPS.
The airports national policy statement, published yesterday, sets out the conditions that a new runway scheme will have to meet. MPs will vote on the plans within 21 days.
